Dubai Police have seized 13,657 electric scooters during the first eight months of 2026 as part of an intensified crackdown on riders violating traffic rules and safety regulations. Authorities said the campaign is aimed at reducing dangerous riding and preventing accidents that could result in serious injuries or fatalities.
Police said some of the most common violations include riding against traffic, using pavements and commercial markets, crossing roads dangerously, moving between lanes through road dividers and riding in areas where e-scooters are not permitted. Riders are also being targeted for using roads with speed limits above 60 km/h when designated scooter paths are available.
The crackdown has been particularly strong in recent months. June recorded the highest number of seized scooters at 2,602, followed by February with 2,311 and January with 1,979. In August, authorities seized 929 scooters for violations.
Dubai Police have reminded riders to wear an approved helmet and reflective vest, follow traffic signs and signals, and use designated routes. Scooters must also have proper front and rear lights and reflectors, while their brakes must be in good working condition.
