Heavy Congestion on Major Roads

Dubai Traffic Update: Congestion Builds on E44, E311 and Key Interchanges

Dubai, September 15, 2026: Motorists across Dubai and neighbouring Sharjah are facing delays this morning, with live traffic data showing congestion on several major roads. The worst-affected areas include parts of E44 near Business Bay and Dubai Design District, E311 around Discovery Gardens and JVC, and several roads connecting Dubai with Sharjah.

The traffic situation is particularly important for people commuting between residential areas and Dubai’s main business districts. Roads can change from green to red very quickly during the morning rush, so drivers are being advised to check live navigation before starting their journey.

🛣️ E44: One of the major trouble spots

One of today’s main congestion areas is E44, also known as Al Khail Road/Ras Al Khor Road depending on the section.

A significant red stretch is showing around the Business Bay–Dubai Design District area, where E44 meets connecting roads including D71 and D69. Another congested section is visible farther east around Dubai Safari Park and Warsan, where an area near the Safari Park roundabout is currently marked as temporarily closed.

This matters because E44 is one of Dubai’s most important north-south corridors. It connects areas such as:

  • Business Bay
  • Downtown Dubai
  • Dubai Design District
  • Ras Al Khor
  • Nad Al Sheba
  • Dubai Silicon Oasis
  • International City
  • Dubai Hills and surrounding areas through connecting roads

When congestion develops around one interchange, traffic can quickly spread to neighbouring roads because thousands of vehicles use E44 to move between residential and commercial areas.

🚘 E311 also experiencing congestion

Another important road affected today is E311, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.

Traffic is showing a red patch around the D59/D591 junction near Discovery Gardens. There are also slower sections around connecting interchanges toward Dubai Silicon Oasis and International City.

E311 is particularly important for commuters because it carries traffic between Dubai, Sharjah and the northern parts of the UAE.

During busy periods, even a relatively small incident or slowdown can create long queues because of the huge volume of vehicles using the highway.

🏙️ Business Bay and Downtown area

Business Bay is another important congestion point today.

The E44 section approaching the Business Bay/Dubai Design District merge is showing red traffic. There is also congestion around connecting roads near Nad Al Sheba.

Business Bay is one of Dubai’s busiest commercial areas, with offices, residential towers, hotels and restaurants. Because thousands of employees travel into the area every day, traffic can become particularly heavy during commuting hours.

The nearby Downtown Dubai and Sheikh Zayed Road network can also be affected when vehicles divert away from congested sections.

🚦 JVC and Al Barsha

Traffic conditions are somewhat mixed around Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC), Al Barsha and Dubai Marina.

Much of E11, D61 and D72 around Marina and Al Barsha is currently flowing relatively well, but there is a notable red section on D61 near the JVC roundabout, close to Circle Mall.

This is an important distinction: not every major Dubai road is congested today.

Some areas are moving normally while individual interchanges are experiencing serious delays.

For example, Dubai Marina, JLT, Motor City and Dubai Sports City are showing generally better traffic conditions, while particular junctions around JVC and Business Bay are slower.

🏘️ Sharjah–Dubai traffic is another problem

For people travelling between Sharjah and Dubai, the situation can be considerably more difficult.

Al Ittihad Road (E11) is showing heavy congestion through parts of Sharjah, particularly from the Al Mamzar/Al Khan area toward central Sharjah. Other roads through Sharjah’s Industrial Area and Muhaisnah are also showing red traffic.

This is especially relevant for Dubai residents who commute from places such as:

Sharjah → Al Nahda → Deira → Bur Dubai → Business Bay

Even if the Dubai portion of the journey is moving reasonably well, traffic coming across the Sharjah–Dubai corridor can add substantial travel time.

🚇 Is Metro a better option?

For some journeys, yes.

If your destination is near a Dubai Metro station, the Metro can be much more predictable than driving during peak traffic.

This is particularly useful for people travelling toward:

  • Deira
  • Bur Dubai
  • Downtown
  • Business Bay
  • DIFC
  • Dubai World Trade Centre
  • Dubai Airport

However, the Metro itself does not solve the first-mile/last-mile problem. You still have to reach the station and travel from the destination station to your final location.

⚠️ What should drivers do today?

The biggest mistake is leaving home based only on the normal travel time.

For example, if Google Maps normally shows a journey taking 25 minutes, today’s traffic can potentially push that significantly higher depending on the route and time.

Drivers should:

1. Check Google Maps/Waze immediately before leaving.

2. Avoid sudden lane changes.

3. Maintain a safe distance.

4. Slow down around accident/incident locations.

5. Keep an alternative route ready.

6. If possible, travel outside the main rush period.

Traffic authorities and navigation systems can update conditions rapidly, so the situation you see at 8:30 AM may be completely different an hour later.

📍 What is the situation overall?

Today’s traffic picture is mixed rather than a complete Dubai-wide gridlock.

🔴 Heavier areas

  • E44 around Business Bay/Dubai Design District
  • E44 around Warsan/Dubai Safari Park
  • E311 near Discovery Gardens
  • D61 near JVC/Circle Mall
  • Parts of Sharjah’s E11/Al Ittihad Road
  • Some Muhaisnah/Industrial Area connections

🟢 Relatively better areas

  • Dubai Marina
  • JLT
  • Motor City
  • Dubai Sports City
  • Parts of E611 around Silicon Oasis and International City

Bottom line

If you’re travelling around Dubai today, the biggest issue isn’t that every road is jammed. The problem is that several key interchanges and connecting roads are congested, especially around Business Bay, JVC, Discovery Gardens and the Sharjah–Dubai corridor.

So, check the exact route immediately before travelling. A route that looks faster on the map can sometimes become slower within minutes because of a new incident or traffic build-up.
