Dubai has officially launched the second edition of Dubai Mallathon 2026, a unique fitness initiative that transforms some of the city’s largest shopping malls into indoor walking and running tracks during the hot summer months. The event began on 15 June 2026 and will continue until 15 September 2026, giving residents and visitors three months to stay active in air-conditioned comfort.
The initiative was launched under the direction of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who described it as a way to encourage healthier lifestyles and make fitness accessible to everyone. The programme is considered one of the first initiatives of its kind globally, turning shopping malls into community sports destinations.
Thousands of people participated on the opening day. Families, fitness enthusiasts, office workers, students, and tourists joined the event early in the morning before the malls opened for regular shopping activities. Participants were able to walk, jog, run, and take part in various fitness activities inside climate-controlled environments.
Participating Malls
Six major malls across Dubai are taking part:
- Dubai Mall
- Mall of the Emirates
- Dubai Hills Mall
- Dubai Festival City Mall
- Deira City Centre
- Mirdif City Centre
These malls open dedicated walking and running routes every morning, allowing people to exercise safely away from Dubai’s extreme summer temperatures.
One of the key goals of Dubai Mallathon is to improve public health and encourage residents to adopt exercise as a daily habit. The programme supports Dubai’s broader Quality of Life Strategy and aims to make physical activity more convenient for people of all ages and fitness levels.
The first edition of Dubai Mallathon was highly successful and even achieved a Guinness World Record for the largest indoor mall race of its kind. Organizers hope the 2026 edition will attract even more participants over the next three months.
For many Dubai residents, especially during June, July, and August when temperatures often exceed 45°C, indoor fitness options are becoming increasingly important. By combining fitness with popular shopping destinations, Dubai Mallathon offers a practical solution that keeps people active while avoiding the summer heat.
Overall, Dubai Mallathon 2026 is more than just a fitness event—it is a citywide effort to promote healthier lifestyles, strengthen community engagement, and demonstrate Dubai’s innovative approach to public wellbeing.
